I've been doing this kind of motion since Lightwave 1.0 using proper
placement of keyframes. It's not that hard at all. And ever since
Lightwave added spline controls you can also use tension to cause and
ease in or ease out.

Lightwave will already save a motion file separately for each object if
you choose, that's been available since 1.0 also I believe. You can then
load that motion for any other objects you like.
